Job Description:
An In Home Care Aide (IHCA) provides essential personal care services as part of a client’s established care plan. These services include:

  • Assisting clients with personal hygiene (bathing, dressing, grooming, etc.)
  • Helping with toileting and incontinence care
  • Supporting mobility, including transferring from the bed to a chair or other locations
  • Preparing meals for those who cannot cook for themselves
In addition to personal care, an IHCA/CNA assists with household chores, ensuring clients’ homes remain clean and orderly. These duties may include:

  • Washing dishes
  • Doing laundry
  • Sweeping and vacuuming
  • Dusting
  • Making beds
  • Preparing meals
  • Grocery shopping
  • Running errands as needed
Most importantly, IHCAs/CNAs provide companionship and emotional support, which are crucial for helping clients maintain their dignity and sense of self-worth. For families who cannot be there for their loved ones daily, IHCA/CNAs offer much-needed peace of mind by:

  • Accompanying clients to medical appointments
  • Assisting with exercises, as prescribed by doctors
  • Engaging clients in meaningful activities, such as hobbies, games, and reading
  • Supporting clients in following prescribed diets
  • Maintaining ongoing conversations with clients to keep them socially engaged
In many cases, IHCAs/CNAs spend more time with older adults than their family members, becoming an integral part of their lives. Concerned family members often turn to you for updates on their loved ones’ progress, making you an essential part of the family dynamic.
